Agriculture sector in India holds the record for second-largest agricultural land in the world generating employment for about half of the country’s population. India is one of the major players in the agriculture sector worldwide and it is the primary source of livelihood for about 58% of India’s population. The Indian food industry is contributing to world food trade every year and even the consumer spending in India has increased by 6.6% post pandemic. The Indian government has initiated Digital Agriculture Mission for 2021-25 for agriculture projects based on new technologies such as artificial intelligence, block chain, remote sensing and GIS technology, drones, robots and others.

Telangana government vision is to enable each and every farmer achieve sustainable and economical agricultural productivity. Agriculture is known as the backbone of Telangana’s economy by producing more than 27 crops in kharif and rabi seasons by covering the area of about 53.51 lakh hectare. Telangana has emerged as the fourth largest food grain producer in the country with nearly 13.6 per cent of total food grain production of 14.99 crore tons.

Types Of Soil Available In Telangana:

Red soils: Most of the part in Telangana state is covered by Red soils which is about 48%. These soils cover large part in Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, Khammam, Ranga reddy, Nizamabad districts and some parts in Adilabad district.

Black soils: These soils accounts for 25% of total area of Telangana. These soils are very much suitable for Cotton crop. Water holding capacity of these soils is high. You can found most of the parts in Adilabad, Ranga reddy, Nizamabad districts and some parts of Karimnagar, Warangal, Mahabubnagar districts.

Laterite soils: Covers 7% of the area. These soils formed due to intense leaching where high temperature and high rainfall occurs. These soils are sticky in nature. Found in Medak and Khammam districts.

Alluvial soils: Alluvial soil is typically found in river valleys and floodplains. It is very fertile and is used extensively for agriculture present at river banks
