Cash Crops

In today’s era of diversification of agriculture, farmers are now shifting from traditional subsistence agriculture to commercial agriculture. Cash crop generates huge profits, prices of cash crops are determined in international commodity markets. Farmers who produce good quality crops by spending the least are the biggest gainers in the cash crop industry. Famous Cash Crops grown in Telangana are Chili, Cotton, Turmeric, Sunflower, Groundnut, Sugarcane, Red Gram and Green gram. 

Sunflower: It is one of the most important oil seed crop grown and it is major source of vegetable oil in the world. sunflower is a profitable crop and gets ready in 100 days without much labor it gives around 20 quintals per hectare in returns.

Ground Nut:  Among all oil seeded crops, ground nut is cultivated for more than 40-50% in area and 60 to 70 % in production in India. It is cultivated in 2.0 lakh hectares across Telangana region making it one of the major crops of the state.

Sugar Cane: Kamareddy district of Telangana produces largest amount of sugar cane in Telangana. The production of sugar cane in India is around 1.36 million tons.

Red Gram: Red Gram is also known as called Pigeon pea. It is cultivated in 2.75 lakh hectares across Telangana state.

Green Gram: Green Gram is popularly known as “Moong Dal” and is cultivated in approximately 1.5 lakhs hectares across Telangana.

Cotton: Cotton is considered as White Gold and Telangana stands in the 3rd position in cotton production. It is grown in most of the parts of Telangana, each year cotton is cultivated in about 12.5 lakh hectares with a production of 48 lakh bales.

Chili : Chili is universal spice of India and it is the largest producer of spices in the world. Chili is intensively grown in Khammam district of Telangana.

Turmeric: Telangana is the highest producer of turmeric in India. Every year turmeric is grown in 42 thousands hectares with an annual production of 3 lakh tons.
