FOOD GRAINS
Telangana’s food grain production has increased from 68 lakh tons in 2014 to 3.5 crore tons in 2021-22. Popular foodgrains cultivated in Telangana are Paddy, Maize and Jowar.
Paddy: Telangana paddy production is around nearly 1.6 crore tons annually cultivated in 55 Lakhs acres. During the current KMS (Kharif Marketing Season 2022- 2023 ) Telangana was recorded as the second largest producer of Paddy.
Maize: It is the second major cultivated crop in the state of Telangana in around 14 lakh acres producing annually 16 Lakh tons.
Jowar: An important Rabi season cultivated crop in around 1.20 lakh acres of land across the Telangana state. Sorghum is popularly knowns as “Jowar” in India. It is used for human consumption, fodder animal feed, and for the production of starch, adhesive, paper, etc.
